Visionary Machines announces new partnership with the University of Tasmania, advancing sovereign Australian counter-drone capability.

Collaborating with Dr Brian Salmon from the University of Tasmania’s School of Engineering, Visionary Machines is the lead industry partner, integrating its passive 3D optical detection technology with the University’s acoustic drone detection program.

Together, the collaboration targets one of the fastest‑evolving threats: increasingly autonomous, high‑speed and swarming drones, delivering faster detection and richer situational awareness without active emissions.

“By fusing next‑generation acoustic sensing with our unique passive 3D optical technology, we’re pushing sovereign Australian counter‑drone capability to the forefront globally,” said Dr Samson Lee, Chief Technology Officer at Visionary Machines.

This project has been selected under the Australia’s Economic Accelerator (AEA) program for cutting‑edge sovereign technology — chosen from more than 838 university and research team submissions nationwide, with only 174 projects selected.

“We’re excited to work with Australia’s research community to deliver real‑world capability where it matters most.” Said Dr Lee.
