Hi, my name is Tom, I’m a Senior Research Scientist at Visionary Machines. Visionary Machines is a global company. I work out of the Oxford Office, at the Oxford Innovation Centre.
My background is in robotics. I originally did (studied) Mechanical Engineering at Cambridge University (UK). I spent some time over in the US, doing Robotics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). and I did a PhD (President’s Scholar) at the Imperial College London.
Visionary Machines solves complex challenges in perception, allowing autonomous and robotic systems to understand the world around them so that they can take appropriate action. For my role I need to be able to engage in complex technical problems. Need to have the tenacity to solve them, for application in many different domains and many different solutions areas. I work on the algorithms that make sure that the Visionary Machines sensors that we use to reconstruct the world are well calibrated and accurate.
To start with Visionary Machines I was in the research department, developing algorithms to improve the reconstruction and accuracy of the Visionary Machines system. I then moved to the product team, to integrate this algorithm we developed, into the Visionary Machines product.
I’m motivated by solving complex problems, that have impactful practical applications.
I really enjoy working at Visionary Machines, the culture is open, we work together in collaboration. It is great working in a team with experts across a broad range of fields (including) computer vision, computer science and robotics, to deliver the next generation of autonomous systems.
Our proven team of computer vision and robotics experts, scientists and designers come together to deliver best-in-class sensor technology
