Visionary Machines Partners with University of Tasmania on Counter‑Drone Technology
Visionary Machines announces new partnership with the University of Tasmania, advancing sovereign Australian counter-drone capability.
The ASCA EDT program is investing $40 million across 14 projects to strengthen Defence’s ability to make faster, more accurate decisions than any potential adversary. Visionary Machines’ project will leverage its proprietary Pandion™ Passive 3D Multispectral Perception Sensing.
“Visionary Machines is honoured to be selected for our innovative, sovereign Australian technology. Our advanced systems deliver precise spatial intelligence, enabling rapid and informed decision making to provide a true strategic advantage. We are thrilled to partner with CruxML, combining our leading-edge capabilities to drive Decision Advantage across the Australian Defence Force.” said Sonny Foster, CEO of Visionary Machines.
The Pandion™ system combines visible and infrared light to deliver highly accurate 3D multispectral vision, enabling detection and tracking of aerial, ground, and maritime threats — even in low-light or complete darkness.
Visionary Machines was one of just 14 technology innovators selected from 123 submissions received through this call for EDT proposals. The Commonwealth of Australia (represented by the Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator) supports this research through a Defence, Science and Technology Group Industry Research Contract.
This award builds on Visionary Machines’ proven track record in Defence innovation, following its success in the Australian Army Innovation Day program, and its commitment to advancing autonomous sensing technologies across air, land, and sea domains.
Visionary Machines is a sovereign Australian technology company advancing global capabilities through cutting-edge, real-time 3D spatial sensing. Across all domains — Air, Land, and Sea — Visionary Machines provides the sensing foundation for autonomous systems and advanced decision-making. By fusing deep technical innovation with mission-oriented design, we empower our partners in defence, aerospace, and critical infrastructure to see, understand, and act with confidence in complex environments.
